CVI was publicly credited with helping defeat specific 2025 Idaho ballot-initiative restriction measures
Recorded status: Verified CVI activity and legislative outcomes; LCV causal attribution preserved as attribution. Funding-source-to-2025-activity tracing is NOT established.
This is a dated research record. Its qualifications and open questions are part of the account. Association alone does not establish wrongdoing or control.
The effect side of the Sixteen Thirty→Conservation Voters for Idaho branch is now independently documented beyond general mission statements. League of Conservation Voters, CVI's national network affiliate, reported in March 2025 that CVI strategically worked to defeat three Idaho measures restricting the citizen initiative process: HB 85, SJR 101 and HB 2. LCV says CVI outreach generated more than 600 emails to state representatives and the governor, increased constituent turnout at committee hearings, included direct conversations with seven swing senators before a floor vote, and used targeted neighborhood canvassing. LCV attributes the defeat of HB 85 and withdrawal/recommitment of SJR 101 to these efforts. Independent legislative records corroborate the outcomes: HB 85 failed to advance from House State Affairs on a 7-7 vote; SJR 101 was recommitted to Senate State Affairs on March 27, 2025 and died; HB 2 remained in House State Affairs and died in committee. This supports a narrower, evidence-based statement that CVI materially participated in organized pressure intended to affect Idaho legislative outcomes and was publicly credited by its national affiliate with helping stop specific bills. It does NOT establish that Sixteen Thirty's 2021 $60,000 grant, Western Futures Fund's later grants, or any particular upstream donor dollars paid for the 2025 lobbying/grassroots activity. Nor does the documentary record independently quantify how much of each legislative outcome was caused by CVI versus other legislators, witnesses, groups, constituents or political factors.
