WFF research support and Way Back spending converge on the same Kansas candidate through the 1861 Initiative

A current Kansas case further documents how Western Futures Fund and Way Back PAC can appear around the same candidate through different legal/financial channels without proving coordination. The 1861 Initiative (FEC C00945733), a Kansas super PAC registered April 1, 2026, reported $69,300 in FEC 'Other Receipts' through June 30. Current FEC-derived transaction data identify a $59,300 itemized payment associated with Western Futures Fund in the committee's operating-expenditure records, while Inside Elections reports that WFF gave the committee an initial $10,000 donation plus roughly $59,000 worth of polling. The 1861 Initiative later reported $2.225M in independent expenditures supporting Kansas U.S. Senate candidate Noah Taylor through July 31. Separately, current FEC-derived independent-expenditure records show Way Back PAC also spent directly to support Taylor, including list acquisition, email/SMS production and texting in April 2026; Inside Elections describes Way Back's support at roughly $13,000 by its August reporting cutoff. Progressive Vet PAC, another committee already documented as Contours-funded, reported exactly $47,500 in 'Other Disbursements' through July 31; Inside Elections reports that this $47,500 was transferred to the 1861 Initiative after Progressive Vet shifted attention toward Taylor. The narrow significance is candidate-endpoint convergence across WFF, Way Back and a Contours-funded PAC: WFF supplied money/research value to the principal Taylor-supporting super PAC, Way Back independently spent to support Taylor, and Progressive Vet reportedly transferred funds to the same super PAC. This pattern is analogous to other multistate network overlaps already saved. It does NOT establish that WFF, Way Back, Contours, Progressive Vet or the 1861 Initiative coordinated with one another or with Taylor; FEC independent-expenditure rules and the available filings do not prove candidate involvement. The precise FEC receipt-side split of the 1861 Initiative's $69,300 initial WFF-related support should still be reproduced from the committee's raw Schedule A/memo rows before treating the $10,000 cash + $59,300 polling split as primary-row verified.
