Clayton Rockefeller donor records add a dated upstream lead into Toolbox and Way Back PAC
Recorded status: IRS-derived itemized contribution records verified; family-office identity supported but not independently conclusive; foundation funding and Idaho earmarks not established
This is a dated research record. Its qualifications and open questions are part of the account. Association alone does not establish wrongdoing or control.
ProPublica's IRS Form 8872-derived explorer lists five contributions from Clayton Rockefeller, described as a self-employed real-estate investor/developer in Providence, Rhode Island, to Toolbox (EIN 88-3259830): $10,000 on November 15, 2022; $100,000 on February 10, 2023; $250,000 on March 1, 2024; $250,000 on February 7, 2025; and $350,000 on March 31, 2026. These total $960,000. The March 2026 item links to Toolbox filing 9770409. The explorer separately lists Way Back PAC among Toolbox's recipients. These are published IRS-derived records, not a fresh extraction of the original IRS filings.
An official Rockefeller Brothers Fund biography identifies Clayton/Clay Rockefeller as a fifth-generation family member, developer/investor, David Rockefeller Fund board chair and Pocantico Committee member. Name and occupation are consistent with the donor record; the biography alone does not independently establish that the Providence donor record is the same individual. That identity cross-check remains a useful follow-up.
This sharpens the preexisting Toolbox→Way Back lead by locating dated donor-level records. It does not establish that the David Rockefeller Fund, Rockefeller Brothers Fund or Rockefeller Foundation made these contributions. An individual's institutional roles do not turn personal contributions into foundation grants. Nor do the records identify an Idaho earmark, show that these particular dollars funded Way Back's Idaho payments, or establish a benefit to Bob Naerebout, Governor Little or IACI. Toolbox is the identified 527 organization; no identity with similarly named family offices is assumed.
